Tourney time for area teams

Marshall County will be well represented in upcoming Dizzy Dean all-star tournaments.

Two 10-year-old baseball teams will play in the State North Tournament July 5-8 at J.P. Hudson Memorial Park in Batesville.

The Marshall County Nationals will face Horn Lake in the opening round Thursday, July 5, at 11 a.m.

The Marshall County Americans will swing into action the same day at 3 p.m. versus Senatobia.

With wins, the Nationals will play Oxford Thursday, July 5, at 5 p.m., and the Americans will play the Hernando-Batesville winner Friday, July 6, at 11 a.m.

The seven-team tournament is double elimination.

With losses in round one, the county teams would play again on Friday.

The State North Tourna­ment continues Saturday, July 7, and wraps up Sun­day afternoon, July 8, weather permitting.

The Marshall County 13-year-old all-star baseball team is advancing straight to the Dizzy Dean World Series, which starts July 11 at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven.

Three Marshall County girls softball teams will be playing in the Dizzy Dean World Series. They will compete in the 6-year-old, 8-year-old and 12-year-old divisions. It begins July 11 at Greenbrook Park in Southaven.
