Tips for playing Fantasy Football 2024
So you didn’t win your league last year and ended up losing a bet you probably didn’t sign up for. That’s ok, that was the past, and in this week’s column, I’m going to give you a few tips, or at least the tips that have crowned me champion of my fantasy league in back-to-back years.
Being a league champion took patience because injuries can definitely hurt you. But if you break your roster down into three parts, you’ll understand why it makes so much sense once I finish explaining it to you.
The first part is obvious, and that’s making sure you can get a home run hitter in the first round. It used to be an easy or no-brainer decision to take a running back with the first pick, but as of recently, taking a wideout is also a safe choice. In the second part, don’t put too much into selecting the top defense; instead, load up on as many skilled players as possible. For instance, if you can help it (draft positioning matters), don’t draft a QB or Def until later rounds. Also, fill out those flex slots as best as possible; you’ll thank me later.
Finally, this tip may be useful to some and useless to others, but selecting the right kicker is important. Some weeks you may need something or someone to help you edge out a victory against an opponent; kickers are either really good or really bad week in and week out.
I drafted Justin Tucker pretty early one season, and I guarantee you, he averaged 14 points a Sunday, which was huge for my team weekly. That season taught me the value of kickers in fantasy football. Now that you’ve read my tips on drafting a balanced team, I hope everyone has a successful season playing fantasy and happy football.
