Summer league games help Hawks

Summer league 2026 is over for the Holly Springs boys basketball team with the top priority accomplished.

Coach Sylvester Kilgore said his Hawks played about 20 games versus various teams in Mississippi and Tennessee and won more than they lost. However, the main purpose was getting valuable experience on the court.

“We played more games than we had practices because experience is something you can’t teach,” he said. “You really learn about yourself and your team when you are put in game situations. This is what develops players and teams.”

Lots of work is yet to come, prior to the 2026-27 season.

“We have to work on our fundamentals, execution and decision making, to name a few things,” Kilgore said. He said he appreciates Hawk fans for their support during the summer league games.

Kilgore also announced summer league awards – Most Improved, Caleb Jones; Hustle Award, Jeremiah Dowdy; Clutch Player, Dawan Malone Jr.; Rookie of the Year, Zavion Mason; and Leadership Award, Derwin Hamer.
