The Marshall Academy Patriots, with only six players, stunned Winston Academy to start the 2016-2017 basketball season.
The shortened roster is due to the MA football team still competing in the state playoffs.
But it didn’t matter on this night, as the Class AA Patriots hung on for a 66-63 win over the Class AAA Patriots.
Marshall fell behind 16-14 after one quarter. However, Kyler Moncrief’s three put the home team up 31-22 with 2:03 left in the first half. The lead was 36-29 at intermission.
