Season openers Aug. 23

It’s July. It’s hot. And in Mississippi, that means high school football practice is just a month away.

Marshall Academy’s first day of practice is August 1 with the season kicking off August

23.

Practice for the public schools – Holly Springs, Byhalia, Potts Camp and H.W. Byers – begins August 5 with the season openers also set for August 23.

Realignment for the next two years, 2019 and 2020, means some new district competition.

The Marshall Academy Patriots will be a member of Class 3A, District 1, for football. District opponents are Rossville Academy (Tenn.), Oak Hill Academy and Tunica Academy.

Marshall County rivals the Holly High Hawks and the Byhalia Indians will both be a member of Class 3A, Region 2. Other district foes are Independence, North Panola, Senatobia and Water Valley, the defending state champion.

The Potts Camp Cardinals will be a member of Class 2A, Region 1. District opponents are East Union, Mantachie, Strayhorn and Walnut.
