Red-hot Cardinals win three straight
The Potts Camp High School Cardinals have won their last four out of five games heading into the final week of the regular season. Head coach Chris Daniels is leading the Cardinals to what could be their best season in school history.
The Cardinals celebrated Senior Night at Friday’s game. The Cardinals have a veteran team, retiring 18 seniors at season’s end.
Strayhorn High School Mustangs rolled into town looking to spoil Senior Night for the red-hot Cardinals. The first half was pretty much even, as the Mustangs carried a one-point lead into the half (14-13). The Mustangs started pulling away in the third, pushing the score to 20-13. But the Cardinals dominated the fourth quarter, scoring 10 unanswered points to get the narrow 23-20 victory.
“You don’t go to a sushi bar to get spaghetti. We knew we had to stop the run and we would have a great chance to beat them,” Potts Camp coach Chris Daniels said. “That is exactly what we did. Our defense played in the second half like two hounds fighting over the same bone. Our offensive run was great all night we ran the ball like a rabbit being chased by a fox. Our coaches train our kids on what they need to do and then we trust them to go out and do it”.
The Cardinals close the regular season on the road at Coffeeville for a 1A Region 3 contest on Thursday, Oct. 26. Game begins at 7 p.m.
