Potts Camp Cards down unbeaten Strayhorn

Potts Camp High School was nothing short of perfect in there 47-0 victory over the Coldwater Cougars last week. The Cardinals kept the momentum going in a huge road test against the unbeaten Strayhorn High Mustangs.

The Mustangs scored first taking a 7-0 lead into the second quarter. The Cardinals owned the next three quarters scoring 27 points.

The Mustangs, despite being down two touchdowns made a late push scoring twice in the fourth but it wouldn’t be the win.

The Cardinals handed Strayhorn its first loss of the season 27-21.

“This is the first time someone has punched us in the mouth. It was great to see us respond like we did with 21 unanswered points,” Coach Richard Russo said. “However, I feel like we left a lot of yards and points on the field. We’ve got to quit having a magnet on our chest and be more elusive and athletic in open space.

“Defensively, we are close to being an elite group. Got to find the right 11 dudes. We aren’t there yet,”

Russo said his players worked too hard on special teams for them to be in bad situations.

“When you give them the ball inside the 5-yard line and you are basically handed them seven points and all the momentum,” he said.

Quarterback Peyton Aldridge racked up a total of 291 rushing and passing yards combined. Free safety Drew Hogan made 15 tackles, and defensive lineman Ethan Bridges finished with 11 tackles

The Cards come home September 23 for their “lil cards night / special needs awareness “ game vs Eupora High School.
