Potts Camp Cardinals crush Coahoma Co.

Potts Camp picked up an all-important district win last week.

Dominic Martin was the winning pitcher and had a pair of doubles from the batter’s box as coach Dustin Minor’s Cardinals dominated Coahoma County 16-5.

Potts Camp improved to 2-1 versus Region 3-2A foes.

Martin, who threw 62 pitches, gave up just two hits and struck out six. Ben Shaw came on in relief in the fifth, throwing 13 pitches and striking out three.

Martin had a double in the first and another in the second, driving in a couple of runs. Also getting RBIs were Dylan Minor, Ben Shaw, Trell Kimmons, Alex Hawkins and Conner Skelton.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the first, six in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth.

Potts Camp-Biggersville

The Cards dropped a pair of close non-conference games this past Saturday, the first 8-5 at Biggersville.

Potts Camp scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-2 lead. However, the Lions scratched back in the bottom of the inning with five runs and a 7-3 advantage.

The host team added one more in the bottom of the sixth. The Cardinals tried to rally, scoring two in the top of the seventh, but came up short.

Shaw doubled in the loss. Getting a single each were Marterrian Donnell, Martin, Kimmons, Hawkins, Zach Humphreys and Jase Aldridge.

Potts Camp used several pitchers in the game, including Martin, Aldridge, Shaw and Humphreys.

Cardinals-Thrasher

The host Rebels rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 4-3 win over the Cards.

Potts Camp went up 3-1 in the top of the sixth after Martin singled and Shaw homered. But they couldn’t hang on.

Potts Camp had scored one in the third. Martin had a hit in that inning, as did Aldridge.

Kimmons started on the mound for the Cardinals. Minor relieved him in the fifth.

The Cards were scheduled to host Falkner Monday and visit Coahoma AHS Tuesday. They host Bruce Thursday at 5 p.m. and host Hickory Flat Saturday at 4 p.m. and Wheeler Saturday at 6 p.m. Next Tuesday, April 11, they visit H.W. Byers at 4 p.m.
