Potts Camp, Ashland split Saturday games

Potts Camp basketball teams made the short ride to Ashland Saturday afternoon and split a pair of Region 2-1A contests.

The Lady Cardinals got 29 points from Ashley Anderson as they scorched the Lady Blue Devils 56-39.

Anderson scored 11 of Potts Camp’s 13 second-quarter points, and the Lady Cards built a 23-12 halftime advantage.

Coach Brad Wren’s team stayed in control in the second half and went on to win by 17. It was the Lady Cards’ second win over the Lady Devils this season,

LaKayla Collins added 12 points for Potts Camp.

Top point-producers for Ashland were Cherica Cheairs with 11 and Chantora Cheairs with 10.

The Lady Cardinals improved to 9-10 overall and 4-3 in the district.

In the second game of the afternoon, the Ashland boys came out of the starting gate on fire and dominated Potts Camp 78-58 to sweep the two-game, regular-season series.

The Blue Devils blistered the nets with five threes in the first quarter – three from DeAnthony Tipler and two from Jamarqus Everett.

Ashland was up 28-7 after the opening period and kept clicking in the second to take a commanding 56-26 lead to the locker room at intermission.

Potts Camp outscored Ashland 32-22 in the second half but Ashland left its home gym with a 20-point win.

Three Devils scored in double digits – Ocquavion Agyekum with 17, Tipler with 16 and Everett with 10.

Three Cardinals also reached double figures in the scorebook – Martavious Frost with 13 and Kedavian Faulkner and Kylan Conners with 11 each.

The Potts Camp boys dropped to 8-12 overall and 3-4 in the district.

The Lady Cardinals and Cardinals hosted Myrtle this past Tuesday night. They will visit Falkner Friday. Next Tuesday, Jan. 30, they will host West Union. All are district match-ups.
