Patriots win against Raiders

The Patriots are hot. MA has won six of the last seven football games. After 0-2 start, the Patriots had one of the biggest turnarounds in the state. But to stay hot, they would have to get pass Kirk Academy Raiders.

Kirk Academy has only one win this season, but they were still motivated to try and catch a win on the road. After a hard fight the Raiders lost to Marshall 54-20.

Marshall Academy’s head coach Ben Durham said it was a great night to be Patriot.

“We had a helicopter drop at the opening of the game ball, the pee-wee football team ran out with the varsity, and we had the little cheerleaders perform at halftime. The varsity team showed out.”

Durham said they tried to spread the ball around.

“Brody Whitaker started seven for seven with 125-yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter. I felt like the offensive line dominated up front. Which made it easy in the skilled players,” Durham said.

“While we gave up 20 points,” Durham said, “we got confused in the secondary on a long pass.”

Durham said it is always a great night when you win and everyone gets to play.

“In these games when they get lopsided, it’s so important to get quality minutes from your future players,” Durham said. “We have a big group of sophomores. So it’s great to see what they can do.”

The Patriots are home for their regular season finale vs. Oak Hill Academy of West Point Oct. 21.
