Coach Darryl Partee said he watched his Byhalia Indians grow and come together as a team in summer league basketball action.
“We want to just build some continuity amongst one another,” he said after facing competition Wednesday, June 24, at Horn Lake High School. “Every team is different, so we want to develop a different style of play. They’re getting to know each other better, and I’m getting to know them.”
Partee will enter his third season coaching at Byhalia. The Indians had their struggles in 2026-27, but he is expecting better things ahead.
“We had a good summer,” he said. “I saw lots of growth, and I’m pleased. We shared the ball and played well together. I think we will have a good upcoming season.”
Cutting down on turnovers and playing aggressive defense are keys to success for the Indians.
“We have to defend better and take care of the ball at a high level,” Partee said. “That will be our main focus going into a new season.”
Two seniors, Jalen Muse and Brayson Roberts, have impressed the head coach in summer work, and he really liked the energy brought by another senior, Matthew Peterson, during the games at Horn Lake.
