National champion again

• Todd clears 2.18 meters in New Mexico

Corvell Todd of Byhalia continues to excel in track and field at the junior college level.

The Hinds Community College freshman finished first in high jump at the National Junior College Athletic Association Outdoor Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico. He had a clean sheet through four bars and missed once on 2.18 meters (7-1.75) before clearing that height for the individual crown.

It was his second national championship this year.

He is a 2018 graduate of Byhalia High School. He is the son of Wendell Todd and Iris Todd.

The Hinds men’s team finished seventh in the nation.

On May 14, Todd was named one of eight National Athletes of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The honor came after Todd picked up the win in the high jump competition at the Meridian Community College Last Chance meet. He jumped 2.16 meters (7-1) to take first place at the event.
