Marshall sweeps Lee

Marshall Academy basketball teams picked up a pair of District 1-3A wins over Lee Academy Thursday night, Dec. 18, on the home court.

The Lady Patriots, who built a big 27-11 halftime lead, coasted to a 51-35 victory. Gracie Rappa led the point production with 16, including three threes. Lauren Parks followed with 10.

The Patriots got off to a slow start versus the Colts but used a strong second half to get the 61-39 win. MA outscored Lee 39-17 in the final 16 minutes of the contest.

Powering the Marshall offense were Carlos Young with 18 points, Makhi Finley with 16 and Brett Hicks with 13.

Marshall teams split a pair of games against different opponents on Monday, Dec. 15, at home.

The Lady Patriots turned it up a notch in the second half and rolled past St. Mary’s 68- 44. The contest was knotted 27 at intermission but MA outscored the opposition 19-6 in the third and 22-11 in the fourth.

Three Marshall players scored in double figures – Tamya Wilson with 16 points, Gabby Marion with 15, including three threes in the first half, and Mady Holmes with 14.

The MA boys let a halftime lead slip away and lost to Delta Streets 51-49 in the nightcap. The Patriots were up 25-21 at the break and couldn’t hang on. Delta Streets was 12 of 17 from the free-throw line in the second half, and Marshall was 0 for 1.

Top scorers for MA were Findley with 15 points, Kaleb Luse with 11 and Artavious Wilson with 10.

The Lady Patriots (14-5) and Patriots (12-3) visited Northpoint Christian School on Friday of last week. They will play in the Calhoun Holiday Showdown Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29-30. On Monday, both teams play Oak Hill Academy back-to-back starting at 12:30 p.m. On Tuesday, the girls face Independence at 1:30 p.m. with the boys going against West Lowndes at 2:45 p.m.
