Marshall splits with W. Memphis

A strong third-quarter sparked the Marshall Academy Lady Patriots to a 49-33 win over District 1-3A opponent West Memphis Christian School Monday, Dec. 19, at home.

Leading 22-20 at halftime, the MA girls cranked up the offense and the defense in the third, outscoring the Lady Knights 19-1 to take total control of the contest. Gabrielle Marion, Addie Shaw and Danielle Thomas each hit a three in the third.

Marion finished with a game-high 14 points for the Lady Patriots, 17-11 on the season. They will be the third seed in the district tournament January 29-31 at Marshall.

The Marshall boys dropped a 65-46 decision to West Memphis.

Carlos Young was the only Patriot scoring in double digits with 15 points. He scored 10 of the team’s 19 points in the second quarter. MA was down 3527 at intermission.

The Patriots, 18-6 overall, will also be the third seed in the district tourney, which tips off Thursday afternoon in Holly Springs.
