Marshall MAIS 4-A District Champs

Congratulations to Marshall Academy’s baseball program, the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools 4-A District Champs.

“Last week’s games were great,” Patriot coach Dustin Skelton said. “We tried to get a game in on Monday, but the weather came earlier than expected. It washed us out, and in the second inning, it was 1-0. We had to resume the game on Friday and won 10-0 in five innings. Saturday, we were scheduled to play two games against North Delta.

Skelton said they didn’t perform well on the mound in the first few innings.

“We walked a few, and they put a few good swings on balls right down the middle,” Skelton said. “My guys fought back and scored a few in the fourth inning and got us within one run, 3-2, and then we got a shut-down inning from my same arm that gave us some momentum going into the fifth inning.”

The Patriots made headway in the fifth inning.

“We went ahead in the fifth, and I brought Hayden Lundine in,” said Skelton. Lundine has been excellent all year, and he gave me three innings of solid pitching, and we won 4-3.”

Skelton said they are looking forward to competing in the playoffs.

“We are going into the playoffs. We are looking to compete and simplify things one pitch at a time,” Skelton

said. “We have a first round bye and will play winner of Manchester Academy and Oak Hill Academy. We have to know the reason for the season and play for Cut (Cutter Crass), a teammate we lost in a tragic car accident on March 8. Everything is for him. We dedicated this season to him and his legacy lives on through our guys.”

The Patriots travel to Hernando on Tuesday and play at home on Thursday and Friday.
