Marshall falls to Oak Hill
Points were at a premium in West Point Thursday night.
And unfortunately, Marshall Academy was on the short end of both low-scoring District 1-4A basketball games.
The Lady Patriots trailed by 14 at halftime, made a strong push in the next 16 minutes and lost a close one, 39-36.
MA was down 28-14 at intermission and outscored the Lady Raiders 12-6 in the third and 10-5 in the fourth only to fall three points short.
Evelyn Greer was Marshall’s top scorer. She had 14 points, seven in each half. Hallie Turner added 11, all coming in the second half.
The Lady Patriots went to 56 overall and 1-2 in the district.
Both the Marshall and Oak Hill boys had trouble producing points, too, but in the end the host Raiders controlled the fourth quarter and won 43-36.
MA led 10-6 following the opening period, 21-20 at halftime and 29-28 at the end of the third.
The Patriots could muster just seven points in the final eight minutes, while the Raiders scored 15, including a couple of big threes and seven of nine from the free-throw line.
Carson Orman was the only MA player scoring in double digits. He had 11, nine of those coming in the second period. He hit two threes and was three of four from the charity stripe in that quarter.
The Marshall boys went to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the district.
The Lady Patriots and Patriots played in the Tunica Tournament on Friday and Saturday of last week.
They will next host Rossville Christian (Tenn.) for district games on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
