Marshall edges North Delta, 20-13

After winning their first game on the road, the Patriots were home for the first time all season to welcome Batesville North Delta Green Wave.

The first half was all defense as both teams went into halftime tied at 0. The fun wouldn’t start until the second half as the Patriots put some points on the board taking a 60 lead.

The Green Wave returned, retaking the 7-6 lead the next possession.

In the fourth, the Patriots built a 20-6 lead, but the Green Wave wasn’t done fighting after they scored on a 54-yard touchdown play that would cut the lead to a one-score game. The Green Wave made one final attempt to tie or take the lead, but the Patriots’ defense sealed the game with a late interception by Saxon Ballard, winning the game 20-13.

“The game was electric,” Patriots coach Ben Durham said.

The Patriots hosts rival Magnolia Heights High School for their next game, Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.
