MA wins series versus North Delta
Marshall Academy took two of three from District 1-3A rival North Delta last week to snatch some momentum with post-season play just around the corner.
The second-place Patriots finished 11-4 in district play, while the first-place Green Wave ended district competition at 12-3. Both teams will wrap up the regular season this week versus non-district opponents. The Class 3A state playoffs start the week of April 27.
MA claimed a walk-off win in game one of the North Delta series, scoring one in the bottom of the seventh to celebrate a 7-6 victory at home.
The Patriots collected nine hits. Jaxson Rikard and Cash Redding led the offense with two hits each. Rikard also had two runs-batted-in. Marshall played error-free defense, while North Delta committed four errors. Gage Todd pitched six innings and Reagan Allen one.
A five-run sixth inning powered the Green Wave to an 112 win in game two at Patriot Field. They outhit the Patriots nine to eight. The tide turned defensively in the nightcap, as Marshall committed six errors while North Delta played error-free baseball.
Avery Wilbanks had two hits for MA in the loss. The Patriots scored one in the second and another in the seventh.
Marshall visited Batesville Thursday and dominated the Green Wave 11-1 to take the series.
K. Todd and Cohen Lundine were the RBI leaders with two each. Carpenter had two hits. Lundine also pitched six innings and earned the win from the mound.
The Patriots wrapped up a busy week on the diamond with an 8-3 loss at Collierville, Tenn., Friday. A four-run fifth for the Dragons was the difference.
Rikard had a pair of hits for MA, and K. Todd drove in two runs.
MA (19-17) visited Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, Tenn., on Tuesday of this week. They then go Arlington, Tenn., Friday to conclude the regular season. The opponent in next week’s best two-of-three playoff series will be the first-place team from District 23A, which will likely be TriCounty.
