MA goes 2-2 on spring break trip

The Marshall Academy Patriots enjoyed good weather and good baseball on a trip to the Gulf Coast of Alabama for spring break.

MA went 2-2 with wins over Bayside Academy and Tipton Rosemark and losses to Christ School and Friendship Christian.

“We learned a lot about our ball club,” coach Dustin Skelton said. “We’re playing some really good ball right now. We’re playing as a team, getting a bunch of timely hits, and just playing together. We are playing some of our best ball to kick us off into conference play.”

The Patriots and Christ School went into extra innings on Monday, March 9, with Marshall dropping a 10-7 decision. Gage Todd had two hits, including a homer, and two runs-batted-in. Also getting two hits each were Cash Redding, Kyler Todd, Jaxson Rikard and Cohen Lundine.

MA then rebounded for a dominating 9-1 victory over Bayside Academy. Dom Green drilled a home run with two RBIs. Reagan Allen earned the pitching win. In five and one-third innings on the mound, he struck out seven and gave up six hits.

“Reagan was the player of the game,” Skelton said. “He threw a gem.” Marshall lost 2-1 to Friendship Christian on Tuesday, March 10. Colt Carpenter had two hits.

“We just didn’t get the timely hits,” Skelton said. “We pitched it well enough to win.” The Patriots then closed the spring break trip with a 105 win over Tipton Rosemark. Connecting for two hits each were Redding, Carpenter and G. Todd. Lundine also added a hit.

MA (5-11) was scheduled to start District 1-3A play at home on Tuesday of this week versus Rossville. The Patriots then travel to Rossville Thursday and visit West Union Friday. Next Tuesday, March 24, they go to West Memphis for a district contest.
