MA dominates North Delta

Marshall Academy turned in a strong performance versus District 1-3A opponent North Delta School Tuesday, Aug. 18, at home.

The Lady Patriots produced 10 hits in a 10-0 rout of the Green Wave.

“We put together much-improved offensive approaches and seemed to have our production back in rhythm,” head coach Jamie Rappa said.

Leadoff hitter Maddie Hudson continued to light the fire. She had three hits, scored three runs and stole four bases. KayLynn Coey and Mara Smith each had two hits. Olivia Smith drove in a pair of runs.

“Maddie continues to be the X-factor offensively, and the young ladies are collectively balancing up very nicely,” Rappa said.

Coey turned in another stellar performance from the circle, showing tremendous command of her pitches in a four-inning shutout, he said. She struck out six, gave up just two hits and walked two.

MA hit the road Thursday to Starkville Academy, and the game was cancelled in the third inning due to rain.

On Saturday, the Lady Patriots split a pair of games at the Magnolia Heights Tournament. They fell to Calhoun Academy 7-3 and downed the host Lady Chiefs 8-3.

Marshall led Calhoun 3-2 after five innings, but gave up five runs in the top of the seventh. Hudson and Aubrey Brigance had two hits each in the loss.

The Lady Patriots got the offense in gear again versus Magnolia Heights, connecting for 10 hits in the five-run victory. Getting two each were Coey, O. Smith and Bailey Thomas, who also drove in two runs. Coey was the winning pitcher.

Marshall (12-3-1) will return to Magnolia Heights Thursday of this week to again face the Lady Chiefs, and next Tuesday, Sept. 1, they visit Lee Academy in Clarksdale for a district contest.
