MA boys ease past district foes
The Marshall Academy Patriots took care of business against a couple of District 1-3A opponents last week.
The MA boys blistered North Delta School Tuesday, Jan. 6, on the road. The final score was 64-18. Ten Patriots scored in the win. Leading the way were Artavious Wilson with 13, Kaleb Luse with 11 and Jaden Walker with 9.
The lead was 47-11 at halftime as the running clock kicked in and quickly ticked the game away in the second half.
The Patriots had no trouble on Friday night of last week either, this time routing Kirk Academy 50-19 on the home floor. They led 25-11 at intermission and held the Raiders to only eight second-half points
Carlos Young and Luse sparked MA in the early going, combining for 16 of the Patriots’ 19 first-quarter points. They finished the game with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Brett Hicks added 13.
The Marshall girls lost both district match-ups last week, starting with a 48-44 setback in Batesville versus North Delta. It was a tight contest throughout. MA trailed 23-21 at halftime.
Gabrielle Marion was the leading scorer for the Patriots. She tallied 15 points.
The Lady Patriots cut a double-digit deficit to nine in the third quarter Friday night but could not get any closer. They fell 52-30 to Kirk.
Scoring six each for Marshall were Lauren Parks, Kilee Harris and Gracie Rappa.
The Patriots (16-5) and Lady Patriots (14-11) hosted Rossville Christian on Tuesday of this week. They travel to Clarksdale to face Lee Academy Friday. Next Monday, Jan. 19, they host West Memphis Christian.
