Lummus takes home Reserve World Champion title
Another trip to the National Finals Rodeo wrapped up for Northwest Mississippi Community College Rodeo Head Coach Will Lummus and while the overall numbers didn’t go the way the veteran was hoping, there were still plenty of highlights for the Rangers’ head man.
Lummus, of Byhalia, finished in 15th in the average with seven catches and an average of less than four seconds on each of his catches. Unfortunately, the no catches came back to bite him in the overall standings, and in the money standings where Tucker Allen came back to pass him with the average win.
Lummus still walked away from Las Vegas, Nevada, as the Reserve World Champion with $334,833 in earnings on the season, which was just over $10,000 ahead of Jesse Brown in second place. Allen finished just shy of $400,000 after taking home the $94,036 available to the gold buckle winner and NFR Champion.
The highlight of the rodeo for Lummus came in the fourth round when he split the fastest time for a round win after throwing the steer in 4.0 seconds.
He also picked up top three times in Round 2 (4.0), Round 5 (3.7), finished fourth in Round 6 (4.6), and tied for second in Round 9 (3.8) before closing out the rodeo with a third-place finish in Round 10 with a 3.9.
This was the eighth appearance at the NFR in his professional career, and he has now finished as the Reserve World Champion four times in the last five years.
