Locals bring home state honors

Marshall and Benton counties were well represented in the Class 1A Mississippi High School Activities Association State Track and Field Championships, and many earned topfour recognition.

Competing were athletes from H.W. Byers, Potts Camp, Hickory Flat and Ashland.

Byers Lions – Marion Fitzpatrick, second, high jump, 6-0, and fourth, 300 meter hurdles, 44.60; E’mariun Jones, third, 800 meter run, 2:10.03.

Byers Lady Lions – Mya Jefferson, third, 100 meter hurdles, 18.13; 4x400 meter relay team, Jakayla Jones, Destiny Moore, Nyla Jones, Tytianna Anderson, fourth, 4:45.21.

Potts Camp Lady Cardinals – Akira Woods, third, long jump, 15-11.25.

Hickory Flat Lady Rebels – LaDextini Tipler, first, high jump, 4-8, third straight year to win first.

Hickory Flat Rebels – Cade Clayton, 3,200 meter run, fourth, 12:23.03.

Ashland Blue Devils – Kesean Walker, fourth, long jump, 21-3; 4x200 meter relay team, Kenterrius Morgan, Joseph Godwin, Jabari Hampton, Quay Evans, fourth, 1:35.84.

Ashland Lady Devils – 4x100 meter relay team, Jaziah Bean, Joniya Eason, Honor Thurston, Jamerya Allen, fourth, 52.43.
