Lions third in tourney

The H.W. Byers Lions survived what coach Kevin Jones called a “sub-par second half” to beat West Union in the consolation game of the Region 2-1A Tournament Friday night.

Byers won 69-68 to take third in the tourney and advance to the first round of the state tournament.

“It was the tale of two halves,” Jones said. “We played great in the first half, leading by 16, but then we gave them the opportunity to win the game at the end.

“It was close with each team trading baskets but we were able to get the one--point win.”
