Lions district champs for fifth straight year

It’s no secret the H.W. Byers Lions have been the best basketball team in Marshall County for the last three years. Their record continues to be impressive under Region 2-1A Coach-Of- The-Year Fred Stafford.

Lion leaders Jabari Wright, Omarrious Johnson, Mardarian Euell, and Chris Isom Jr. look poised to do something they’ve been so close to doing the last few years – win a state championship.

The Lions were crowned district champs for the fifth consecutive year after defeating Pine Grove High School with a final score of 62- 55.

Though the Lions have dominated all season long, coach Stafford thinks that his team will play with much urgency as the big goal is to bring the gold ball home. The focus will be taking one game at a time.

The Lions will have homecourt advantage and host Houlka High School Tuesday, Feb. 13.
