Lady Rebels win in Alabama
Coach Zach Carnell and his Hickory Flat Lady Rebels traveled 100 miles east Saturday into neighboring Alabama, and it was worth the ride.
Participating in the Grind2Shine Classic at Brilliant High School, the Lady Rebels turned in a strong defensive performance and knocked off Berry, Ala., 44-28.
Coach Carnell said his team did not shoot the basketball well but battled throughout.
“We played a gritty game,” Carnell said. “I was proud of the effort.” Olivia Roberson scored seven of her game-high 13 points in the second quarter as Hickory Flat surged out front 23-9 at the half. Roberson, who hit three threes, was named Player of the Game. Ladextini Tipler scored 12, six in each half.
The Lady Rebels (15-9) hosted Mantachie on Tuesday night of this week. They go to Potts Camp Friday. Next Monday night, Jan. 26, they visit Marshall Academy.
