Lady Patriots blank Wayne

The Marshall Academy softball team, playing in a tough Brookhaven Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 12, finished with one win, a tie and a loss.
The Lady Patriots saved their best performance for last, shutting out Wayne Academy 7-0.
Bailey Thomas led the offense with two home runs and four RBIs. In the circle, Kendall Matthews allowed just one hit over four innings while striking out five to earn the win.
Earlier in the day, Marshall and Adams County Christian School battled to a 6-6 tie, and the Lady Patriots fell 7-5 to Silliman Institute.
Maddie Hudson had three hits and three stolen bases against Adams County, while Olivia Smith added two hits. Azley Ashby hit her first career home run.
Against Silliman, Marshall led 3-0 early and 5-2 after five innings before Silliman rallied with five runs in the top of the sixth. Hudson went 4-for-4, and Aubrey Brigance added two hits and three RBIs.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Patriots dropped a 5-0 decision at home to Bayou Academy. Marshall managed just four hits, while the Lady Colts tallied 12.
Marshall (14-6-2) plays District 1-3A games against North Delta on Monday and West Memphis Christian on Tuesday. On Sept. 21, the Lady Patriots will host Lee Academy in district play.
