Lady Indians split with Hickory Flat

The Byhalia softball team split a doubleheader with Hickory Flat Friday at home.

Coach Jay McGee’s Lady Indians had 12 hits in the first game as they cruised past the Lady Rebels 12-2.

Taylor Rooker led the hit parade. She went three for three.

Getting two hits each in the 10-run win were Makayla Ables, Hailey Edwards and Brittany Feathers. Adding one hit each were Kailey Nixon, Mikayla Reeder and Kaiya Arnett.

Feathers had three runsbatted- in. Knocking in two runs each were Ables, Edwards and Arnett. Nixon also had an RBI.

Brianna Ables earned the win from the circle. She struck out nine, walked four and gave up four hits in six innings of work. She threw 106 pitches, and 67 of those were strikes.

The Byhalia girls then dropped the nightcap, 14-6, to Hickory Flat.

The Lady Rebels led 5-0 before the Lady Indians used a five-run third inning to tie the game.

Then Hickory Flat pulled away in the final two innings.

The Lady Indians’ bats went silent in this one. They had just three hits – one each from Rooker, M. Ables and Reeder. Rooker had three RBIs with her double.

The Lady Indians (5-7) were scheduled to host Tishomingo County on Tuesday. They host New Albany Thursday at 5 p.m. Next Tuesday, April 3, the Byhalia softball team will visit Corinth at 5 p.m.
