Lady Indians packing their bags for Jackson

Few, if any, thought the Byhalia Lady Indians could make it to Jackson after losing Dandy Dozen player Shay Johnson to injury late in the season.

However, their head coach believed.

“I told them, ‘I’m your biggest fan,’” James Sales said.

His Lady Indians responded by punching their third straight trip south on I-55 with a 63-42 rout of Pontotoc Friday night at home.

“Nobody thought we’d win anymore after losing Shay,” he said. “I told them you can step up or lay down. They worked hard to get better – stayed late at practice. It paid off.”

The Lady Indians struggled a bit out of the starting gate versus the Lady Warriors in the second round of the 4A state tourney but still had an 11-8 lead after one quarter.
