Lady Indians get 12th win

The Byhalia girls just keep on winning.

Just prior to the holiday break, the Lady Indians dominated Callaway 52-32 in the Magic Citi Showdown at Northpoint Christian School.

The win improved Byhalia’s record to 12-1 as the Lady Indians continued to turn some heads statewide.

“MaxPreps has the girls number one in the state in Class 4A,” coach James Sales said. “We’re playing some good basketball.”

Four players scored in double digits in the recent rout of the 5A foe from Jackson. Lakiowa Milan led the way with 17 points. Shay Johnson followed with 13. Scoring 11 each were Shaquira Caradine and Tialexus Stevenson.

The Lady Indians led 23-17 at the half and tucked the win away in the third by outscoring their opponent 21-6.

“We got there late, right before the game started,” Sales said. “We had about 10 minutes to get dressed and get on the court. By the time we got loose and got going it was halftime. After that, we came out and put some pressure on and got some separation.”

Both Byhalia teams, the Lady Indians and the Indians (6-6) hosted cross-county rival Holly Springs this past Tuesday.

They will visit District 1-4A foe Corinth Friday night. Next Tuesday, Jan. 9, they will host Ripley in district action.
