Lady Hawks down Lafayette

Holly Springs basketball teams faced the host teams Saturday in the Commodore Challenge at Oxford and split against Lafayette. Both were low-scoring games.

The Lady Hawks won their fifth straight, 35-19 over the Lady Commodores. Defense dominated throughout with Holly High leading 23-8 at halftime.

Teyauna Reaves was the only player for both teams scoring in double digits with 13 points.

The Hawks couldn’t overcome a struggling offense in the next game. They shot 31 percent from the field and dropped a 43-37 decision to Lafayette. Holly Springs also hit just six of 12 free-throw attempts.

Christopher Hale scored 15 points in the loss. Jaylen Cassidy contributed nine. Jeremiah Dowdy had seven rebounds.

The Commodores outrebounded the Hawks 31 to 21.

The Lady Hawks (16-4) and the Hawks (11-10) visited North Panola on Tuesday of this week.

They travel to Coahoma County this Thursday night and then go to Independence Tuesday, Jan. 20. All are District 2-3A opponents.
