Lady Cards wrap up successful season
The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals volleyball team continued their postseason run with a sweep over the Smithville Lady Seminoles in the second round of the playoffs Tuesday night, Oct. 7.
The Lady Cardinals (24-3) took the match in straight sets – 25-13, 25-15, 25-18.
Zoe Clark controlled the offense with 26 assists, adding one kill, four aces and five digs in the victory.
“We came determined to leave it all on the floor,” said Clark after the match. “It wasn’t all talent – trust and hard work have gotten us to where we are.”
The rest of the Lady Cardinals showcased a well-rounded effort, combining for 19 digs and 29 kills. Alyssa Clifton led the scoring threat by recording 18 kills.
After a decisive win over Smithville, the Potts Camp Lady Cardinals traveled to Pine Grove Thursday, Oct. 9, for a quarterfinal match-up where the Lady Cards fell 3-0 to their opponent.
Despite the loss, the team combined for 18 kills, 17 assists, three aces, 39 digs and two blocks.
First-year head coach Hugh Yates said, “I am very proud of this team. Having four new starters could have easily been an excuse, but this group of girls exceeded expectations.”
The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals ended the season as both Marshall-Benton County champions and Region 3-1A champions with a record of 24-4.
