Lady Cards, Lady Rebels win Senior Night for Lady Hawks volleyball playoff matches

A pair of volleyball teams from Marshall and Benton counties earned decisive victories in postseason action last weekend, advancing in the Mississippi High School Activities Association playoffs.

Potts Camp swept Shaw 3-0 in Class 1A, winning by scores of 25-6, 25-5 and 25-6. The Lady Cardinals were led by Zoe Clark, who recorded 26 assists and 12 service aces. Alyssa Clifton added 22 kills, while Harlynn Stephens contributed seven aces and Kaylee Howell finished with seven digs.

Hickory Flat also advanced in Class 1A with a 3-0 victory over West Tallahatchie. The Lady Rebels dominated from the opening serve, winning 25-4, 25-4 and 25-12.

The victories capped a week of postseason recognition for both Hickory Flat and Potts Camp. Hickory Flat head coach Kody Joyner was named the Region 2-1A Coach of the Year, while Abby Rowland of Hickory Flat and Alyssa Clifton of Potts Camp shared Co-Player of the Year honors. Potts Camp’s Zoe Clark was selected as the region’s Offensive MVP.

The Lady Rebels placed five players on the All-Division Team: Lauren Russell, Annalee Akin, Stormie Westmoreland, Ella Hoyle and Abby Rowland. Potts Camp was also well represented, with Clark, Clifton, Howell and Addy Kate Robinson earning All-Division honors.

Elsewhere, Houlka defeated Ashland in straight sets in 1A, 3-0, while Byhalia was swept 3-0 by New Albany, the reigning Class 4A state champions.

With the opening round complete, Potts Camp and Hickory Flat turned their attention to the second round of playoff competition. Potts Camp played Ingomar and Hickory Flat hosted Tupelo Christian Prep Tuesday night.
