Lady Cardinals finish second at track meet
Coffeeville High School girls track team won the Cardinal Invitational Track Meet Division II Tuesday, April 4, scoring 44 points. Runner-up was the Lady Cardinals with a score of 43 points and Coldwater High School won third place with a score of 37 points.
Lady Cardinals who placed first in track competitons were Malasha Faulkner first place ribbon in the 100-meter dash; Bianca Woods placed first in the high jump field event; and Ja’Mrie Faulkner placed first in the shot put event.
On the track Ramkiah Strickland was named runnerup in the 200-meter dash and Ja’Mrie Faulkner was runnerup in the discus field event.
The Lady Cardinals 4x100meter relay team, Malasha Faulkner, Raykiah Stricklen, Akira Woods and Mariah Jeffries, placed second and the 4x200-meter relay team, Akira Woods, Mariah Jeffries, Jayliah Mayfield and Joshaira Jeffries, received second-place ribbons.
Fourth place ribbons were given to Akita Woods in the long jump competition.
Kenlee Allen placed fourth in the 3200-meter run and Mariah Jeffries placed fourth in the 300-meter low hurdles. Bringing home fifth place ribbons were Raykiah Stricklen in the 100-meter dash and Mariah Jeffries in the 100-meter intermediate hurdles.
Eleven teams competed at track and field events. The scores were:
• Coldwater High School won third place with 37 points.
• Hickory Flat High School 36 points.
• Myrtle High School 30 points.
Bruce High School and Tupelo Christian Preparatory School 21 points; H.W. Byers High School 19 points; Walnut High School 18 points; Marshall Academy,10 points, and Pine Grove High School three points.
Division 1
Charleston High School placed first with a score of 64 points. Runner-up was Lafayette County High School with with 54 points and third place was Shannon High School with 42 points.
Other team scores are East Webster High School 30 points; Holly Springs High School and East Union High School 24 points each; Independence High School 22 points; Water Valley High School, eight points; Nettleton High School, three points; and Byhalia High School, did not score.
