Jr. Hawks travel to Florida to compete

Rodney Redmond, Holly Springs Jr. High Hawks basketball coach, and the team traveled to Jacksonville, FL., to play with some of the best young talents in the state. Redmond said he is proud of the team for bringing home the runner-up banner at the Nor th Florida Hoop Group competition.

The Hawks entered a two-day tournament this past weekend.

“Bringing the runner-up banner home and knowing that we have a great group of guys, we will take that and roll this momentum into the season where it counts,” Redmon said.

The tournament was very competitive and intense.

“I have to give those boys from Jacksonville their props. They are trained well and looked like vets who have been playing for years. We fell shor t this weekend participating in the loser’s bracket and was able to come home with the runner-up banner.”

Redmond said the team experienced playing other teams, and the Jr. Hawks grew close as a team.

“We had a blast – from swimming in the pool at the hotel, to competing with some of the best young men in Florida, to enjoying the beach in Jacksonville,” Redmond said.

“Whether it was simply playing basketball, eating snacks in the room, or hanging in the lobby talking about the future, it opened my boys’ eyes a lot,” he said. “We didn’t get first place, but one of my close supporters said that ‘the exposure and experience for our boys is bigger than any win,’ and I truly believe that.”
