The H.W. Byers Lions made the short ride on Highway 72 to Tippah County short-handed, and it didn’t work out in their favor.
Coach Chris Daniels’ Class 1A squad, with 22 on the roster, had five out with injuries and dropped a 47-12 decision to Class 2A Walnut. And two other Lions were hurt in the game, leaving 15 players.
“We just wore down,” he said. “We played hard, but it was simply a numbers game. The math was on their side. We had 15, and they had 45.”
