Indians, Lady Devils pick up victories

The offense was clicking for the Byhalia Indians Tuesday night, Nov. 13, when they invaded Ashland.

Four players scored in double digits as coach Derwin Cooper’s team blistered the Blue Devils 81-59.

“The boys played a great game throughout the night,” he said.

Leading the offensive attack were Kavontae Tunstall with 17 points, Raymond Tuggles and Antwon Porter with 16 each, Jerrell Bronson with 13 and Denzel Guy with 12.

Bronson added four rebounds, three assists and seven steals to his effort.

“We jumped out to a 14-2 lead and didn’t let up,” Cooper said. “The guys were focused.” In the first game of the evening, the Lady Indians fell 72-60 to the Lady Blue Devils. “We got off to a rocky start (12-point deficit) and couldn’t recover,” Coach Cooper said. The Byhalia girls battled back to within eight at the half, 38-30, but went on to lose by 12. Guard Lakiowa Milan poured in 23 points for the Lady Indians. Also in double digits were Darianna Wilson with 18 and Jasmine Malone with 11.

The Lady Indians (1-3) and the Indians (2-2) hosted cross county rival Holly Springs on Friday night of last week (see the full report in next week’s South Reporter due to early deadlines for Thanksgiving). They hosted Southaven on Tuesday night, Nov. 20.

Next Tuesday night, Nov. 27, the Byhalia teams visit Rosa Fort (Tunica).
