Indians down Cards
The Byhalia baseball team wrapped up spring break by beating cross-county rival Potts Camp on the diamond.
The Indians downed the host Cardinals 13-0 in five innings this past Saturday.
“Our offense came to life Saturday,” said Hunter Gore, head coach of the Indians.
Kyle Edwards earned the pitching win. In four and one-third innings on the mound, he struck out nine, walked two and gave up three hits.
He also went three for three at the plate with three singles and a walk. He scored four runs, had one run-batted-in and had a stolen base.
Mark Jones was also three for three. He had a double, two singles and three RBIs with a run scored.
Gavin Edwards went three for four with the bat. He had a triple, two singles and two RBIs with two runs scored.
Dylan Edwards was two for four with two singles, two RBIs and a run scored.
Braxton Grisham was two for three with a double and a single and two RBIs.
George Yarbrough was two for four with a double and a single and two RBIs.
Trell Kimmons had a double for Potts Camp. Also getting one hit each for the Cardinals in the Saturday game were Alex Hawkins and Jaquives Muse.
The Indians lost a pair of games earlier last week.
On Monday, March 12, they fell 7-4 at home to Horn Lake. The Indians had a one-run lead in the seventh but couldn’t hang on as the Eagles won it in the eighth.
On Tuesday, March 13, the Indians fell 14-1 at home to Independence.
“We struggled early, and errors cost us four runs,” Gore said.
The Indians (3-5) visited Corinth, a District 1-4A foe, on Tuesday of this week.
They host Corinth Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday, they host Lafayette at 11 a.m. Next Tuesday, March 27, they host district opponent Tishomingo County at 4 p.m.
