Holly Springs wins two at North Panola

Holly Springs basketball teams took to the road last week to go against a couple of District 2-3A foes. The Lady Hawks won both games, while the Hawks went 1-1.

The Holly Spring girls battled through some foul trouble and survived, 41-40, at North Panola on Tuesday night, Jan. 13.

Teyuana Reaves had to sit most of the third quarter, due to foul trouble, coach Morgan Vickery said, and Aryauna Ingram carried a heavy load.

Reaves finished with 12 points and Ingram with 11.

The Lady Hawks trailed by as many as six in the game. They snatched the lead with 50 seconds remaining and held on to it from there.

“It was a tough-fought battle,” Vickery said.

The Holly Springs boys completed the sweep of North Panola, winning 67-59. Jeremiah Dowdy had a huge night with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

The Hawks trailed 31-27 at halftime but outscored the Cougars 20-10 in the third quarter and 20-18 in the fourth.

Other top scorers were Dawan Malone with 13, Jaylen Cassidy with 11 and Christopher Hale with 10. Cassidy had 10 rebounds and Hale four assists.

The Holly Springs girls had no trouble Thursday night, Jan. 15, at Coahoma County. They built a commanding 26-7 halftime advantage and won the district match-up 48-22.

Reaves poured in 18 points, with 14 of those coming in the first half. Ingram added nine.

The Holly High boys, on the other hand, struggled at Coahoma County. They fell 6934. The Hawks shot 29 percent from the field (12 of 42). They were zero of 13 from beyond the three-point line.

Dowdy had 10 points in the loss. Cassidy grabbed seven rebounds. Hale had four assists.

The Lady Hawks (18-4) and the Hawks (12-11) visited Independence on Tuesday of this week for district games. They host Biggersville next Tuesday, Jan. 27.
