Holly Springs sweeps Byhalia
Holly Springs basketball teams closed the pre-Christmas portion of their schedules at home with a sweep of cross-county rival Byhalia.
The Lady Hawks rode a 27-point performance from Teyuana Reaves to a 46-13 win over the Lady Indians Friday night, Dec. 19. She scored 13 in the opening quarter as Holly Springs soared ahead 24-4.
The lead was 34-7 at the half, and the Lady Hawks went on to win by 33.
The second game of the evening was a closer one as the Holly Springs boys turned back Byhalia 64-49. The Hawks’ advantage was 30-23 at the halfway mark.
Jeremiah Dowdy had a huge night for the Hawks. He scored 24 points and grabbed 25 rebounds. Christopher Hale and Jaylen Cassidy tossed in 13 and 10 points, respectively. Hale also dished out four assists and had six steals in the 15-point win.
Holly Springs won the battle of the boards, 40 to 31.
Scoring in double digits for the Indians were Bryson Roberts with 17 and Jalen Muse with 11.
The Lady Hawks (13-4) and the Hawks (10-7) played in the Murray Dixon Holiday Shootout at Water Valley on Monday of this week. Friday night, Jan. 2, they will visit H.W. Byers. The boys then face Shannon Saturday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m. In the Saltillo Basketball Shootout.
Byhalia teams also played in the holiday shootout at Water Valley on Monday. They will travel to Clarksdale Friday, Jan. 2.
