Holly Springs sweeps Byhalia

Holly Springs High School basketball teams had a busy week on the court, highlighted by three wins for the Lady Hawks to go 10-3 on the season.

The Holly Springs girls had a five-point lead at the half, stretched it to 10 in the third quarter and went on to down Rosa Fort 52-39 at home Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Seven Lady Hawks scored in the win. Leading the way in double digits were Teyuana Reaves with 15 points and Aryauna Ingram with 12. Holly Springs was 11 of 15 from the free-throw line.

Reaves’ big night propelled the Lady Hawks to a 49-37 road win over Charleston Thursday, Dec. 4. She scored 30, with 19 coming in the second half.

Holly Springs outscored the Lady Tigers 13-2 in the opening quarter and 15-2 in the third.

The Lady Hawks capped off the unblemished week by cruising past cross-county rival Byhalia 50-11 Friday night on the road. The lead was 33-5 at the halfway mark.

Ingram led a balanced Holly Springs scoring attack with 11 points. Ty Blackmond had seven for the Lady Indians.

The Holly Springs boys let a first-quarter lead fade away and fell 73-53 to Rosa Fort at home December 2. Up 22-15 in the early going, the Hawks found themselves down 36-31 at intermission and were outscored 37-22 in the second half.

Dawan Malone Jr. was the only Hawk scoring in double digits. He had 12.

Holly Springs then dropped a close contest December 4 at Charleston, 62-60. The Hawks shot just 45 percent from the free-throw line, nine of 20, and committed 27 turnovers.

Top scorers for the Hawks were Malone with 13 points and Jeremiah Dowdy and Jaylen Cassidy with 12 each. Dowdy and Cassidy were the leading rebounders with 12 and 11, respectively.

Cassidy’s 20-point, 14-rebound performance led the Holly Springs boys to a big 7659 win over Byhalia December 5. Hale also scored in double digits with 14.

The Hawks had a five-point lead at halftime and at the end of the third quarter. They turned it up a notch in the fourth, outscoring the Indians 26-14 to win by 17.

Dowdy pulled down 10 rebounds in the victory, which improved Holly Springs to 8-5 on the season. Hale dished out four assists.

Scoring in double digits for Byhalia were Derrick Fleming Jr. with 18, Joshuon Turner with 16 and Adonis Anthony with 11.

Holly Springs teams hosted North Panola on Tuesday of this week to start District 2-3A competition. They then host district foe Independence on Friday. Next Tuesday, Dec. 16, the Lady Hawks and Hawks visit Hernando.
