Holly Springs sweeps Byhalia

Holly Springs basketball teams picked up road wins over rival Byhalia on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The Lady Hawks cruised to a 48-26 victory to start the night’s court action.

Top performers for coach Morgan Vickery’s squad were Teyuana Reaves with 21 points, six rebounds and three steals; Aryauna Ingram with 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals; and Zianna Schlender with eight points and five rebounds.

The Hawks, coached by Rodney Redmond, completed the sweep with a 60-57 win over the Indians.

Leading scorers were Jason Jeffries with 15 points, Christopher Hale and Jasiah Johnson with 10 each and Joseph Petty with nine.

Holly Springs teams then traveled to DeSoto County Friday night and split with Lewisburg.

The Lady Hawks hung on for a 31-28 win over the Lady Patriots. Reaves and Ingram scored 10 and eight points, respectively.

“Our girls faced adversity, and I’m proud of them for stepping up and closing the game out through so many factors,” said Vickery, whose team improved to 4-1.

She said the players are dedicated to making necessary changes to learn the game, hold each other accountable and execute on the court.

“We have learned so much already,” Vickery said. “I can’t want to see what we can accomplish moving forward if we remain focused on improving.”

The Hawks lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer, 49-47, to Lewisburg. Their early season record went to 2-3.

Holly Springs teams were scheduled to host H.W. Byers on Tuesday of this week. They travel to Senatobia Friday and then host South Panola Saturday afternoon. The boys play in the Hickory Flat Thanksgiving Tournament November 25-26, while the girls play in the Mantachie Tournament November 25.
