Holly Springs athletes win medals

Holly Springs High School athletes collected plenty of track honors in the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championships at Pearl.

The awards were highlighted by a couple of second place finishes – Na’Kira Martin in the girls 200-meter dash with a time of 26.38 and Christopher Hale in the boys high jump, clearing a height of 6-4.

Third-place finishes for the girls included – triple jump, Zianna Schlender, 35-6.25; 4x100 meter relay, N. Martin, Jaliyah Martin, Shyia Spencer and Schlender, 50.92; and 4x200 meter relay, N. Martin, J. Martin, Kayla Leverson and Schlender, 1:50.03.

Spencer placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.18. The 4x400 meter relay team also took fourth place – Schlender, Spencer, Ja’Niya Allen and C’Yanni Riley, 4:36.95.

Some other Holly High boys also achieved top-four finishes. Christian Hicks took third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.17. Kyson Isom placed fourth in the discus competition with a toss of 41-5. The 4x400 meter relay team also brought home fourth-place honors with a time of 3:33.90. Team members are Jasiah Johnson, Hicks, Jordan Lee and Isom.
