Holly High sweeps Water Valley

Both the Holly Springs Lady Hawks and Hawks won two of three games on the basketball court last week.

Coach Morgan Vickery’s girls tipped off the week Tuesday, Nov. 11, with a 42-18 rout of Lewisburg at home. Teyuana Reaves poured in a game-high 16 points, with nine of those coming in the second quarter. Aryauna Ingram added nine points.

The Lady Hawks hosted Grenada Thursday and dropped a 48-44 decision. Reaves was again the top gun with 19 points. Nakia Martin followed with nine. Holly Springs let a four-point halftime lead slip away.

The Holly Springs girls bounced back Saturday with a 46-34 win at Water Valley. Zianna Schlender had a big game, scoring 14 points. Reaves added 10.

Coach Sylvester Kilgore’s boys struggled in a 55-41 home loss to Lewisburg. They were down 27-13 at halftime.

“We had too many turnovers, poor execution and poor field-goal percentage,” he said. “Those things got us in a hole too deep to come out of.

And free throws were big for our opponent.”

The Patriots were 17 of 22 from the charity stripe. Holly Springs was six of seven.

Jaylen Cassidy was the only Hawk scoring in double digits. He had 13 points.

The Hawks responded from a frustrating night Tuesday with a 46-37 win over Grenada at home Thursday. Leading the way were Jeremiah Dowdy with 14 points, Karon Finley with 12 points and five steals, and Cassidy with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Holly Springs boys finished off the week with a 57-49 victory at Water Valley. They were up 33-24 at the halfway point.

Eight Hawks scored. Dowdy scored 12, followed by Finley with 11, and Cassidy and Dawan Malone with nine each.

The Lady Hawks (4-2) and the Lady Hawks (4-2) visited Potts Camp on Tuesday of this week. They go to Rosa Fort Friday. Next Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 24-25, the boys will play in the New Albany Tournament and the girls will compete in the Hickory Flat Thanksgiving Tournament.
