Holly High sweeps North Panola
The home court produced different outcomes on different nights last week for Holly Springs basketball teams.
In Region 2-3A, the Lady Hawks and Hawks swept North Panola Tuesday night, Dec. 9, and then got swept by Independence Friday night.
Aryauna Ingram and Teyuana Reaves combined for 26 points in the Holly High girls’ 54-25 rout of North Panola. Ingram led the way with 19, and Reaves was close behind with 17.
The Lady Hawks surged out front 27-13 at the halfway mark and outscored the Lady Cougars 27-12 in the second half.
Christopher Hale had the hot hand for the Hawks in their 76-65 win over North Panola. He poured in 26 points, including four threes. Others scoring in double digits were Dawan Malone with 15 and Christian Wells and Jaylen Cassidy with 10 each.
Holly Springs outrebounded the Cougars 42 to 35. Jeremiah Dowdy pulled down 14 rebounds for the Hawks, and Jatavion Pegues grabbed eight.
On Friday night, the Holly High girls came up short, 4742, against Independence. Reaves scored 15 for the Lady Hawks, who trailed 22-21 at halftime.
The Lady Hawks were five of nine from the free-throw line, while the Lady Wildcats were 13 of 19.
The nightcap in the Holly Springs gym was a nail-biter with the Hawks on the short end of a 68-65 decision versus Independence. It was close throughout, with Holly Springs down 28-27 at the halfway mark.
Top performers for the Hawks were Cassidy with 19 points and nine rebounds, Malone with 12 points, Pegues with 10 points and eight rebounds, and Dowdy with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Hawks and Hawks will host Byhalia Friday night. They will then take a short break before playing in the Water Valley Holiday Shootout on Monday, Dec. 29.
