Holly High splits with Independence and rival Ashland
The Holly Springs Hawks had a battle on their hands when they opened District 2-3A play Tuesday of last week.
They saw their lead sink to two in the fourth quarter before hanging on for a 68-57 home win over Independence.
Sylvester Kilgore, head coach of the Hawks, said coach Blake Orman at Independence should be recognized for having his team ready to battle from the opening tip.
“Our defensive execution, along with an improving rebounding effort, helped us pull away despite inconsistent shooting and other missed opportunities,” Kilgore said. “We thank the members of the Hawk nation who were with us the whole contest cheering us on.”
