Holly High Hawks knock off Ripley in Hound Dog Classic

The Holly Springs Hawks had a morning game at the Hound Dog Classic Saturday in Tupelo, and the early wake-up call worked out just fine.

Coach Andre Jones team, after a season-opening loss at Lewisburg two days earlier, bounced back to beat Ripley 46-43 for its first win of the season.

The Hawks got a pair of first-quarter threes from Jabez Jones and went up 1410. They raised the lead to 26-18 at halftime.

Ded’Drick Falkner scored all 10 of his team’s points in the third as Holly High led 36-27.

The Tigers mounted a rally in the fourth but the Hawks hung on to win by three.

Faulkner and Jones led the way with 14 and 13, points respectively.

The Holly Springs boys fell 87-68 to Lewisburg on Thursday night in neighboring DeSoto County.

They trailed 27-15 after one quarter, 41-28 at the half and 69-49 following three.

Top scorers for the Hawks were Faulkner with 16 and Richaud Kirklin with 12.

Lady Hawks The Holly Springs girls dropped a 53-25 decision to Ripley Saturday morning in the Hound Dog Classic. They fell behind 32-8 at the half. Dajah Turner scored 11 for the Lady Hawks.

On Thursday evening of last week, Holly High was on the short end of a 54-33 score at Lewisburg.

The Lady Hawks struggled out of the starting gate, falling behind 16-1 after just one quarter of play.

Jakyna Hankins scored 15 in the loss, while Turner followed with 11.

The Hawks (1-1) and the Lady Hawks (0-2) will visit Tupelo Friday night. Next Tuesday, Nov. 9, they host Ripley.
