Holly High cruises past Strayhorn

Holly Springs was dominant from the get-go Friday night.

The Hawks, in their first home game of the season, soared past Strayhorn 42-0. It was their third straight win for a 3-1 record.

“I was impressed with the way we came out of the gate for our first home game,” coach Donald Deans said. “The focus was there, and we played hard.

“We need to do that the rest of the season – come out with energy and play well.”

Dylan King threw four touchdown passes and Rahmel Campbell caught three of those.

Holly High went up 7-0 on Kadarreon Lumpkin’s 21-yard run and Ahmed Alhalemi’s extra-point kick.

Then the first King-to-Campbell connection was good for 3 yards and a score. Alhalemi added the kick.

Next King threw to Derell Anderson for a 30-yard touchdown. Alhalemi’s kick was good. The lead was 21-0.

The Hawks got one more score prior to halftime. It was King to Campbell from 27 yards out. The point-after try failed.

The last King to Campbell touchdown of the night was an 80-yarder in the third quarter. Alhalemi nailed the kick for a 34-0 lead.

Holly High’s sixth and final touchdown of the night came on Lumpkin’s 20-yard carry. King threw to G’tavin Terrell for the two-point conversion.

Campbell finished with five catches for 138 yards. King was 11 of 18 passing for 202 yards. Lumpkin carried 11 times for 87 yards and Terrell four times for 53 yards.

Leading the defense were Willie Finley with three solo tackles and five assists and Teelan Brown with two sacks and a fumble recovery.

“Defensively, we used our speed to our advantage,” Deans said. “We really swarmed to the football.”

The Hawks will travel to J.Z. George this Friday night. The Jaguars are 0-4, coming off a 30-12 loss last week to Union.

Holly High will try to avenge a 16-12 loss last year to J.Z. George.

“They have played some good competition,” Deans said. “And it’s their homecoming.

“We have to go in there prepared. We need a good week of practice, and we have to play fast and play hard – do what we are supposed to do.”
