Hawks take home win 36-34

The Hawks dropped a 20- 18 heartbreaker in the homecoming game to J.Z. George Jaguars.

But, Holly Springs coach Clifford Brown was optimistic about the season, saying they still have district to play

“We still have a lot of football left,” he said.

The Hawks traveled to Amory to face the Hatley Tigers High School.

The Tigers struck first, giving them a 6-0 lead, but the Hawks would take an 8-6 lead in the next drive. The Hawks took the lead into the half with a 22-14, but the Tigers did not give up easily.

The evenly matched game was evident when the game went into overtime play.

The Hawks prevailed when quarterback Deonte Jefferson scored on a game-winning two-point conversion giving the Hawks their first win of the season by a final of 36-34.

Jefferson was 10-23 for 183 yards with five touchdowns. Senior Cameron Isom had ten total tackles.

“We need to limit our mistakes and work on our special teams,” coach Brown said. “We are still a growing team. We used last game as fuel to get the job done tonight.”

The Hawks are back home to face long-time rival Independence High School on September 30.
