Hawks rout Devils

The Holly Springs Hawks used the defensive pressure to pick up a road win November 14.

Coach Sylvester Kilgore’s squad rolled to an 80-36 win over Booneville.

“A total team defensive effort fueled our transition offense for quick scores,” he said. “Our defense as a team was on display and we made it difficult as they (the Blue Devils) played from behind all night.”

The Hawks led 30-16 at halftime and outscored Booneville 31-7 in the third on their way to a 44-point victory.

DaQuan Smith was the top gun with 27 points. He hit four three-point shots.

Daveon Miller and Tyhem Reaves added 11 points each for Holly High.

Leading rebounders were Miller with eight and Reaves and Ladarius Stinson with six points. Reaves and Rahmon Rutherford had five steals each.

Lady Hawks fall

The Holly High girls dropped a 68-36 decision at Booneville.

Coach Andre Jones said his Lady Hawks made a strong push in the second half. The Lady Hawks scored just 10 points in the first half but 26 in the second half.

“Booneville was a competitive challenge for us,” Jones said.

The Lady Hawks (0-4) and the Hawks (2-1) hosted Marshall County rival Byhalia last Friday (see next week’s paper for a report).

The Holly High boys will play in the Larry Finch Tribute Classic Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on the University of Memphis, Tenn., campus. Their opponent will be Mitchell (of Memphis) with tipoff set for 6 p.m.
